Shortly after 16:00 (local time) on Tuesday, July 31, an Aeromexico plane crashed in Durango state, shortly after takeoff from General Guadelupe Victoria International Airport. Emergency personnel are responding to the crash, the cause of which is currently unknown. Information concerning potential casualties is not yet available. Flight disruptions at DGO airport are likely in the coming hours.
Jose R. Aispuro Torres, the governor of Durango state, confirmed that none of the 103 passengers were killed. At least 49 passengers were hospitalized for their injuries, including the pilot and one other person who are both in critical but stable condition. The plane crashed in a field shortly after take-off around 15:30 (local time). Operations resumed at DGO later on Tuesday night. According to initial reports, a gust of wind hit the plane, causing it to lose speed and hit the ground. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
